FOUNTAINS-PUMPS- AND 18 GREENS

The opening tournament went off with out a hitch.  We have had very little rain and because of that the course is playing firm and fast.  We wanted to get the water fountain on  8 working for the tournament but we had a leak in one of the pipes that took us some time to fix.  Same with the water falls on 4.  We had electrical problems and needed to order some parts that just came in last week.   What we did have was 18 greens!!!!!  after two years of winter damage it is nice starting the year off with no ice damage.

The grass will soon start breaking dormancy (we had frost everyday this past week) Once that happens we will be spending most of our time mowing.
Beautiful opening tournament Congrats to the winners!!!
After over 40 years the bell is back on # 4.

Installing fountain in pond on #8.  It's now up and running

IN HONOR OF EARTH DAY HERE IS THE LATEST FINDINGS ON THE COURSE:

A FLOWER FLY ON SERVICE BERRY BEHIND 11 GREEN,  NATIVE TREES ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR OUR POLLINATORS BECAUSE THEY ARE A GOOD SOURCE OF EARLY SEASON POLLEN AND NECTAR.

OUR RESIDENT GREAT HORNED OWL WITH CHICK.   ALREADY GETTING BIG!!!

FIRST TIGER SWALLOWTAIL SPOTTED YESTERDAY.  HAS HAD A ROUGH START SOMETHING GOT HOLD OF HER RIGHT WING YOU CAN SEE A PIECE OF IT MISSING.

NESTING BLUEBIRDS,  ALWAYS A GOOD SIGN.

*****  ON ANOTHER NOTE:    MOST PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF CHECKING THEIR BIRD HOUSES.  HERE IS A PICTURE OF A TREE SWALLOW THAT HAS BEEN PECKED TO DEATH BY A  HOUSE SPARROW.  HOUSE SPARROWS ARE AN INTRODUCED SPECIES (NON -NATIVE) AND ARE A BIG PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY TAKE OVER THE NESTING CAVITIES FROM NATIVE SPECIES.   IF YOU HAVE A BIRD HOUSE PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK THEM AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK TO MAKE SURE THE HOUSE SPARROWS HAVEN'T TAKEN OVER.  THESE BIRD HOUSES ARE LITERARY LIFE AND DEATH.

MOWING THE ROOF AND SPRING CLEANING

What do we do when Mother Nature throws us a curve ball?   We catch up on the projects that get put on the back burner like mowing the roof of the pump house and cleaning out the barn.
Adonis cleaning off roof after it has been mowed.  Too much frost to work on normal turf.

Pool furniture and old chairs taking up much needed storage space.

Frost allows us to clean and organize the range building

Nice and neat,  we even have room for our blower.

Nice to report our resident owl is still sitting on her nest.   Have not seen any chicks yet.
Picture of our 8th hole.  Nice to have a full pond. Once the warm weather
Returns we are ready to go.  Greens are rolling good and the course is playing firm
and fast.
