Glad it rained

Glad we got some rain.  The course was getting pretty dry. We have seeded the winter damage on the greens and have had to water them with our spray tank.  Progress is moving on the pump house.  We are scheduled for an electrical inspection this Tuesday.  After that we can call Orange and Rockland to turn on the power.  Once that is done we will call the pump company and have them calibrate the pumps.  It is time to get the system going and we are working on it as fast as we can.

Winter damage on greens is getting better but we have a long way to go.  Cold soil temperatures have made seed germination slow.  We are doing everything we can.

Pump house ready for electrical inspection on Tuesday.

Starting to take shape.  Needs roof material, painting and landscaping.

15 green --getting better.

14 green --also better but a long way to go.

A TASTE OF SUMMER

Last week we hit the 70+ degree mark.  This week we are struggling to get in the 60’s.   Things are still progressing.   Those couple of  warm days and the rain have helped.   The grass is starting to green up and grow.  Some of the winter damage is showing a green tinge which is a very good sign.   14 green still continues to be the most damaged.  We are doing everything we can to help speed up the healing process.

The pump house is progressing.  It won’t be long before we will need to use our irrigation system so time is of the essence.   The tee expansions are also taking shape.   Extra fill has been hauled.  We are adding some rocks to the right of 11 black tee to make the tee bigger.  In closing,  I Wish  everyone a happy Easter!!

14 green has the most winter damage.  It will take some time to fully recover.
10,14, & 15 greens have been aerified, v-cut, fertilized and seeded.

Snow on Tuesday night does not help.

COURSE UPDATE:

We have some winter damage on a few of the greens.   It is hard to tell exactly how extensive the damage is.  We need some warm weather to get the grass growing.   In the mean time we are going to keep 14 green covered. 15 and 10 will remain temporaries until we feel comfortable that they can handle the traffic.  We will also be aerifing, seeding and applying a very light amount of fertilizer.  Mother nature still holds all the cards and she is hard to fool.   It seems to be very similiar to three years ago.   If interested go back and look at the posts made to this blog in March and April of 2011.

Work on the pump house is moving along.  The pumps are now connected to the system.  We started enlarging the tees (15-11-2)  last Saturday.

I am glad to say that most of our staff has returned for another year.  We have been busy getting the course cleaned up and ready for play.

IS SPRING HERE?

I am not sure, but today is nice and sunny and kind of warm.   We are making progress.   The new pumps arrived yesterday.  The Contractor is here today putting up the walls.  On Friday we will be connecting the pumps to the irrigation system and water fall.  Then we need to finish the building.  Then we need to hook up the electric.  We hope to finish by the end of the month........we will be busy.

This week we gained a few more staff members to help with the course clean up. Once we get caught up we will start raking bunkers.  Probably next week.  We removed the cover and mowed the Putting green.  We will open it in a few more weeks.   The range should open middle of the month.   The contractor should be starting our  tee expansions this week on holes 2, 11, and 15.   I am hoping to open the back side this coming Saturday.  A lot going on,  I will keep you posted.

We got 2.75 inches rain last weekend --it helped fill the pond.

We covered 14 green last week to "jump start it"  It is showing signs of the harsh winter.   I am hoping that last weeks rains and warmer temperatures get things growing.

Mowed the putting green yesterday.
